This 39 mm anno with its radically pared down annual calendar is the first off the line and belongs to an architect.
Our watches are all about function and the targeted choice of materials. Telling the time comes first for this client, so he has chosen luminous white hour/minute hands to stand out against a dark dial. The seconds hand is less important, so its colour is toned down. Next in the hierarchy is the date, the display of which doesn't take long to master – a glance is all it takes, and it's far more elegant than large alphanumerics.
The month is displayed in the top circle of perforations, behind which the white dot moves anticlockwise, while the weekday is indicated by the lower circle (here, the dot moves clockwise).
There is a place for everything, and everything is in its place. And that's what a wristwatch should be all about.
Time has shown that the wristwatch has superceded the pocket watch in terms of practicality. And it'll outlive the iPhone, too...
The patinated brass dial of this particular watch creates the necessary contrast – the customer preferred it to the patinated gold. It needs nothing else, and it's handcrafted. He also chose silver for the case instead of titanium.
Silver ages beautifully – just like interesting people...

Die anno in 39mm ist die eines Architekten und die erste eben ausgelieferte anno mit dem radikal vereinfachten Jahreskalender.
Hier geht es um direkte Funktion und präzise Materialwahl. Das Wichtigste ist die Zeit. Somit sind der Stunden- und der Minutenzeiger mit dem höchstmöglichen Kontrast in weiss und nachtleuchtend. Die Position der Zeiger reicht, die Orientierung ist intuitiv. Der Sekundenzeiger ist weniger bedeutungsvoll und zeigt primär das die Uhr läuft. Natürlich, wenn er im Zentrum des Interesses steht, um ein paar Sekunden bewusst verfliessen zu lassen, ist er genug sichtbar. Wichtiger und gleich nach der aktuellen Zeit folgt in der Hierarchie das Datum. Wie bei der analogen Zeitangabe ist das Datum nach kurzer Eingewöhnungszeit so perfekt zu erkennen und muss nicht abgelesen werden. Beste Lesbarkeit ohne das Hilfsmittel eines überproportionierten Datums.
Und dann sind da noch die beiden kleineren Anzeigen: Der Monat oben im Gegenuhrzeigersinn und unten der Wochentag. Diese sind kleiner und folgen in der Verfügbarkeit der Anzeige dem Datum.
Somit hat alles seine Ordnung und für Orientierung ist gesorgt. Und um das geht es ja bei einer Armbanduhr.
Schliesslich haben die letzen Jahrzehnte bewiesen, dass eine Taschenuhr nicht eine wirkliche Alternative ist. Unsere Kids werden sehen - auch das iPhone ist es nicht ;-)...
Das patinierte Messingzifferblatt schafft den Kontrast und bleibt im ursprünglichen Material. Kein Zusatz ist nötig - nur Bearbeitung von Hand. Dazu das schönste Material für eine Uhr: Silber!
